Anderson County Board approves 2026–27 budget items, federal grants and transfers

The Anderson County Board of Education voted on June 11 to approve multiple budget measures for the 2026–27 fiscal year, including appropriations, end-of-year transfers and two federal consolidated budget items.
Board members approved appropriations 1.1 through 1.5 in a roll-call vote called by the chair; Miss Baity, Mr. Bale, Mr. Burkbaker, Mr. Cantrell, Mr. Carden, Mr. Gillenwaters, Mr. Miller and Miss Williams all voted in the affirmative and the motion carried. The board then approved transfers 2.1 through 2.13, described by staff as routine end-of-year adjustments, by voice vote.
The board also approved federal budget items 3.7 and 3.8 after narrowing the federal consolidated budgets under consideration; earlier discussion reviewed Title I, IDEA and related grants used in district programs. Separately, the board approved a federal projects budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year and authorized staff to make amendments and addenda as needed during the fiscal year.
Before the final second-reading vote to forward the local budget to the County Commission, several board members disclosed family ties to the school system; the chair said the relationship would not affect their votes. The board approved the second reading by voice vote and will send the budget to the County Commission for its review, a public hearing and subsequent consideration.
During discussion, board members noted a projected decline in TISA funding of roughly $300,000, increasing the shortfall estimate to "about $800,000" compared with earlier projections; the chair said that change remains under 1% of the district’s budget. Board members said County Commission review is the next step and that the commission will hold a budget meeting the week of the 16th before a public hearing and any special-called meeting.
Director Dr. Parrot also reported district metrics tied to the budget discussion: about 465 students graduated this year and graduates earned more than $15 million in scholarships, and the district is running summer programs with 403 elementary and 70 middle-school students enrolled.
What happens next: the board advanced the budget to the County Commission; officials said the commission will meet for budget review, hold a public hearing and then take further action on adoption.
