Rye committee approves demolition of house at 433 Central Road

The Rye Demolition Review Committee voted unanimously on Jan. 29 to allow demolition of the house at 433 Central Road, concluding the structure "is not architecturally important nor historically significant and its demolition would not be a detriment to the neighborhood," committee member Elizabeth Sanborn said.
The committee met at Rye Town Hall at 4:04 p.m. and approved the Nov. 17, 2025 meeting minutes before taking up the demolition application. Sanborn made the motion to approve the demolition finding, and Jenn Madden seconded; the motion passed with unanimous approval.
Committee members recorded a friendly amendment clarifying that the application under review did not cover the barn or garage on the property. The committee said the owners must submit a separate application if they seek removal of those outbuildings.
Chair David Choate said he would notify the Building Inspector and submit the Notice of Decision to complete the administrative step that follows the committee determination.
Choate also listed several recent sales and zoning applications for the committee's awareness but did not open those items for substantive review at this meeting. The committee adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
