Committee members reviewed village district materials and took public comment during the Jan. 28 Budget Committee public hearing at Town Hall.
Rye Beach Village District representatives presented a proposed budget and a treasurer’s report and the committee discussed maintenance work on the post office building completed last year. Rye Water District Rep Scott Marion moved to recommend the Rye Beach budget; the motion was seconded by Richard Furber and the committee voted 8–0 to recommend the budget.
Jenness Beach Village District representatives reported they are still compiling information needed to build a budget and said another Budget Committee public hearing will be scheduled once materials are ready. Jenness Beach Village District Rep Bill Christo noted the need for additional time to prepare materials.
During the public comment period, resident Joe Cummins raised questions about the district’s rates, irrigation practices and options for lead testing in drinking water. Committee members acknowledged the comment and packet materials on lead-testing options were available for review; the hearing record does not show a definitive staff response or a follow-up assignment tied to the comment.
What was decided: the committee recommended the Rye Beach Village District budget and approved the treasurer’s report; Jenness Beach will return with a proposed budget at a later meeting. Public concerns about trees and maintenance were raised but no formal action was recorded on those items at this hearing.
