After park vandalism, Gilmer manager will explore cameras and electrical upgrades and seek bids for water-tank work

City Manager Greg Hutson told the Gilmer City Council on Nov. 12 that Yamboree and Abney parks have been vandalized and that he is exploring camera options to help identify offenders.
Hutson said he has discussed electrical plans for Yamboree Park with Hayes Engineering and expects those plans to be ready by the end of the month. He also said he spoke with TML, which advised the city that council approval is not required to solicit bids; as a result, he directed Hayes Engineering to go out for bids on water-tank projects.
Councilmember Jerry Webb asked specifically about lighting near the Abney Park walking trail; Hutson said the lighting will be reviewed together with camera options.
The actions are administrative steps intended to address vandalism and advance planned park improvements and water infrastructure work. Staff will return with any bid results and more detailed proposals when available.
