Commission finds Caterpillar and GE Aviation in compliance, hears update on community land trust

During the director's report, staff updated the Commission on the community land trust initiative: a board is in place, policies and procedures are being finalized, and staff has submitted a $500,000 Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program grant application to fund five new-construction homes on a mix of city-owned, Habitat for Humanity, Tempest Homes and donated lots. If awarded, staff said construction could begin in early spring 2027.
The director also noted that a planned South Street road project remains contingent on agreements with the railroad and that phasing may be required. Finally, the Commission approved claims totaling $817,017.72.
What happens next: staff will report grant results in November, continue to pursue railroad coordination for South Street, and monitor abatement compliance records.
