Daly City’s Recreation Commission welcomed two new commissioners during its June 23 meeting, when Mayor Glenn Sylvester administered oaths to Janiro Romano and Mark Estrada, bringing the commission to a full five‑member roster for the first time in recent meetings.
The mayor introduced Romano, summarizing his background in transit mechanics and military service, before administering the oath. Romano told the commission he was grateful for the opportunity to serve: "I just wanted to thank you everybody for giving me a chance to serve the community and bring what I can offer...to make it a better place for everybody."
Mayor Glenn Sylvester also swore in Mark Estrada, who spoke about his work in high‑school counseling and his interest in strengthening youth programs. Estrada said he was "thankful and ready to ... be a servant and resource for the community." Both new commissioners were invited to take their seats and participate immediately.
Chair Montinez paused the meeting for a short recess so family and friends could take photos and noted that all five commission seats were present for the meeting. Councilwoman Pam Diovani, who participated in welcoming the appointees, praised the new members and thanked them for volunteering their time.
The commission used the swearing‑in as a transition into regular business. No formal votes were required to seat the new commissioners during the meeting; the mayor and city council previously approved the appointments that led to tonight’s oath‑taking.
The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for July 21, 2026.
