New Marion High soccer coaches outline season plans, community outreach

Blake Hancock and Alex Allison, newly appointed coaches for Marion High School’s girls and boys soccer programs, visited the board to introduce themselves and summarize their summer preparations. Hancock said he was "having the privilege of taking over the Marion girls' soccer program" and described community service events, conditioning sessions and plans for camps; Allison noted alignment of coaching philosophy and an emphasis on character development.

Both coaches highlighted community engagement: players served at a local food bank, participated in the Shockey Scramble fundraiser and helped at elementary schools to promote student engagement. Hancock and Allison credited the fundraiser's strong turnout and community support for producing their highest‑ever scramble revenues.

The coaches introduced assistant coaches and past players returning to help the program; Allison said his background as a behavioral health therapist informs his approach to supporting student‑athletes off the field. Board members praised the coaches' visible community involvement and attendance at off‑season trainings. No formal action was required; the board encouraged community attendance at upcoming games and noted the athletic director’s support.
