Fairfield council introduces bond and code ordinances, approves consent agenda and authorizes $6.42 million in bills

At the June 22 meeting the Fairfield mayor and council introduced bond ordinance 2026-12 (reappropriating $31,556 for acquisition of equipment), introduced bond ordinance 2026-13 (amending bond ordinance 2020-10) and introduced ordinance 2026-14 (amending chapter 18, water of the township code). The council also held the second reading and adopted ordinance 2026-11 (amendments to chapter 2, administration) after opening and closing a public hearing with no speakers.
The council approved a lengthy consent agenda covering a range of municipal actions across departments. Notable items included a contract authorization for monitoring town hall and both fire stations, authorization to prepare design specifications for Hollywood Avenue Park Phase 3, a resolution to submit and execute a NJDOT grant application for milling and resurfacing Barbara Drive, Henrietta Drive and Ram K Drive, several personnel status and appointment actions, and multiple license and raffle approvals. Item B on the consent agenda was moved to be considered separately and tabled; the rest of the consent agenda passed "as amended" by roll-call vote.
Finance action: the chief financial officer certified funds were available and the council authorized payment of the bills list in the amount of $6,421,886.02; the motion passed by roll-call.
Personnel actions: council approved accepting applications for special law enforcement officers Derek Cassidy, Anthony Hurley and Crystal Papus and later denied a leave of absence request for dispatcher Crystal Papus.
Votes and next steps: roll-call votes were recorded on ordinances, the consent agenda and the bills list. The second reading for ordinances introduced with first readings will occur on the dates announced on the agenda where applicable.
