Board approves interlocal agreement to access Snohomish Discovery Program for intensive special-education placements

The South Whidbey School Board approved an interlocal cooperative agreement on June 23 to contract with the Snohomish Discovery Program for intensive special-education placements when district students’ needs exceed local capacity.
Superintendent Dr. Clifford explained the program provides services and placements for students requiring more intensive programming than the district can offer, and the interlocal allows the district to enroll students when necessary. He noted that the district will not be charged under the agreement if it has no students attending the program.
Trustees approved the memorandum authorizing the interlocal and asked no further questions; staff said the agreement is in place to ensure timely access to placements, should those needs arise during the school year.
