South Whidbey board adopts 2026-27 goals after friendly amendment

The South Whidbey School Board approved its 2026–27 board goals on June 23 after adopting a friendly amendment to reword the logistics goal into active voice.
Trustees presented three overarching goals — social-emotional learning, academic growth, and logistics — and several supporting pillars and measures. During the meeting a trustee proposed rephrasing the third goal to begin with "We will" and to list district assets such as land, facilities, people, money, institutional knowledge and time; the amendment passed by voice vote and the goals were approved as amended.
Board members and the superintendent said the adopted goals are intended as a one-year, actionable mini-strategic plan, with measures and activities to be implemented by the district leadership team. The superintendent outlined implementation activities including SEL training (interrupting hate speech), K–12 math alignment and targeted special-education program review implementation.
The goals document was made available publicly on the district website prior to the vote, and trustees invited public comment on the proposals before finalizing the memorandum.
