Staff updates: Sky Harbor airport project, townhomes closing and town-hall on state zoning bill

During general updates, City planning staff told the Plan Commission that a large Sky Harbor/Chicago Executive Airport project will require map amendments, special uses and stormwater compensatory-storage discussion; the packet will include detailed engineering because the airport property needs creative stormwater management and an intergovernmental agreement with the village of Wheeling will allocate permitting responsibilities.
Staff reported that a townhome project (identified as in final due diligence) is expected to close within roughly 30 days and that a local restaurant remodel is progressing toward an anticipated opening in about 45 days. Members were also notified of a town hall on proposed state legislation referenced as House Bill 5626 — described in staff remarks as an initiative that could curtail municipal zoning authority and allow much denser by-right residential development — to be held at the Prospect Heights Library; staff urged attendance so constituents can offer feedback to legislators.
Staff said zoning-chapter work continues slowly and that the city recently hired Amy Alonszo for property maintenance code enforcement.
