The West Orange Zoning Board of Adjustment voted unanimously on June 18 to grant a one‑year extension of previously approved variances for the property at 6 Marywood Drive, extending the post‑expiration approval through Jan. 20, 2027.
Eric Williams, the property owner and applicant, told the board he had delayed construction after a family illness and asked the board to restore the earlier approvals. The board chair, Philip D. Neuer, read the nine conditions tied to the original grant and confirmed with Williams that he accepted them. Williams said he understood and agreed to comply with the conditions and applicable federal, state, county and township statutes.
Board attorney Kelly Carey explained that under the Municipal Land Use Law any extension is calculated from the original expiration date. The chair formally moved to approve the extension “non protunk as of January 19th, 2026 through and including January 20, 2027,” a motion seconded by Laurence Cohen and approved by roll call; all members present voted yes.
The conditions that remain in effect include: payment of any escrow deficiencies; matching siding materials and colors for the addition; tying new roof leaders and catch basin connections into existing storm sewer infrastructure; avoidance of planting or parking within the visual triangle shown on the plan; and compliance with all prior governmental approvals. Williams must also print all conditions on final plan submissions filed with the board.
Chair Neuer offered condolences to Williams for his recent family loss and closed the matter with practical next steps: Ms. Diana Chandler, the board’s staff contact, will confirm escrow and filing requirements. The board’s resolution sets the extension’s expiration as Jan. 20, 2027 and otherwise reaffirmed the original nine conditions.
