Council adopts Resolution 2025-10 to include POW-MIA monument in courthouse maintenance fund

The Dubois County Council on Aug. 25 adopted Resolution 2025-10 to broaden the purpose of the Courthouse Monument Maintenance Fund to include upkeep of the recently erected POW-MIA monument.
Auditor Sandra L. Morton presented the resolution, explaining that the Courthouse Monument Maintenance Fund (4104-143) had been established for the Soldier and Sailor Monument and that the Jasper American Legion Post 147 accepted donations for a POW-MIA monument erected in 2024 as an Eagle Scout project. Morton said the remaining donations will be given to the county for maintenance. The resolution modifies the fund to allow deposits and disbursements for the POW-MIA monument and permits transfers or disbursements only for maintenance, subject to appropriation by the council.
Ryan Craig moved to approve Resolution 2025-10; President Kluesner seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The resolution states funds received from the American Legion Post 147 will become the property of Dubois County and, if a monument is removed, funds will be transferred to the Veteran's Service Office Support Fund, returned to a Community Foundation endowment if available, or deposited to the Dubois County General Fund.
The council's recorded action adopted the change to the fund purpose and added the POW-MIA monument to the list of eligible uses for the Courthouse Monument Maintenance Fund.
