Harrison Township approves bills, insurance renewals, equipment lease and grant-funded thermal monoculars; one abstention on Vactor lease

Finance and insurance: Commissioner Charles Dizard moved and Commissioner James Erb seconded approval of bills payable as of May 23, 2025 in the amount of $194,613.67; the motion carried unanimously. The board also authorized several 2025–2026 policy renewals: a $96,011 MRM Property and Liability Trust package (motion by Dizard, second by Erb), a $21,881 Police Professional Liability policy (moved by Chairman Gary Meanor, seconded by Commissioner Jamie Nee), and a $24,968 Public Officials Management and Employment Practices Liability policy (moved by Dizard, seconded by Nee). Each of those motions carried with all members voting in favor.
Equipment and procurement: The board authorized a lease proposal from Laurel Capital for $485,000 to acquire a Vactor (motion by Commissioner Charles Dizard, second by Commissioner James Erb). Commissioners Meanor, Nee, Erb and Dizard voted in favor; Commissioner Bengel abstained and the motion carried. Chairman Meanor moved and Commissioner Erb seconded ratification of the purchase of five thermal monoculars for $23,945 from Markle Supply using LSA grant funds; that motion carried unanimously. Commissioners also voted to participate in the SHACOG salt bid for 2025 (motion by Commissioner Erb, second by Commissioner Dizard); the motion carried.
Other business and next steps: Department reports from Engineer, Police, Zoning/Code Enforcement, Public Works and Administration were provided to commissioners; no additional public action was recorded. The board adjourned the public meeting at 6:40 p.m. to hold an executive session.
