Council approves library FF&E order, hears $61,000 shelving estimate; staff aims to use grants

Christina, speaking for the library, asked the council to approve a furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) order tied to previously budgeted Board of Education grant funds and to allocate funds so shipments could begin. She moved to approve the purchase (PO reference provided as library port number 945042); the council motion and second passed without opposition.

Christina also presented updated logo and signage concepts produced by an outside designer, requesting council feedback to narrow design choices. Council members favored a rectangular, building-mounted sign and asked for color adjustments so the library mark would be visually distinct from other city branding.

On shelving and layout, Christina said the library is proposing six rows of shelving and additional 'Johnny Craft' picture-book units. She presented a vendor quote of about $61,000 for shelving (shipping not included) and said final approval would wait until the general contractor provides final flooring and painting costs. Christina said construction costs are expected to be covered by a Board of Education grant; she also noted a smaller shipping example for prior FF&E ($1,800) but said shelving freight will be higher.

Christina told the council the county’s final levy reduced library funding and that the city had been told its public hours might fall to 20. She said what was described as a neighboring branch was offering some of its funding to help maintain 20 public hours.

The council approved the FF&E order and provided feedback on signage and shelving; Christina said she will return with final shelving and shipping numbers when the general contractor’s bids are finalized.

What’s next: Christina will obtain final contractor numbers and an adjusted vendor quote including shipping before returning with a request to finalize the shelving purchase.
