Calhoun County hears FY 2026/27 budget requests from departments and local groups

Multiple department heads and local organizations presented preliminary budget requests for fiscal year 2026/27 at the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors meeting on Dec. 23.
Curtis Vanderheiden, Conservation Director and Weed Commissioner, and Lori Erkenbrack, County Treasurer, presented their department budget requests and answered brief procedural questions from supervisors. Pat Riley, Calhoun County Sheriff, also presented the sheriff’s office budget request; Thomas Potter presented requests for the Veterans Affairs and General Assistance offices with Veterans Affairs Commissioners Joe Kangley and Trae Thomas in attendance.
Darcy Maulsby and Dwight Dial presented a $20,000 FY 26/27 request on behalf of Central School Preservation. Sandy Sweeney-Pamperin, Mental Health Advocate, raised questions about the Community Services Network Program and said she would gather more information before the board takes any funding action.
Board members did not make final appropriations during the meeting; the presentations were entered into the record for consideration as the county completes its budget process. The Board will consider these requests alongside other departmental submissions prior to formal budget adoption.
