Calhoun County supervisors approve $85,097.71 farm lease, appoint weed commissioner and allow claims

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a $85,097.71-per-year farm lease with Jason Folsom that runs from March 1, 2026, through Feb. 28, 2029, and took several routine administrative and personnel actions.
Cory Ridgely, vice chairman, moved to approve the lease; Scott Jacobs, member, seconded the motion and the record shows "Ayes all," with the three supervisors present — Dave George, Cory Ridgely and Scott Jacobs — voting in favor. The lease totals $85,097.71 annually, as recorded in the meeting minutes.
The board also approved a quote from Gray Manufacturing Company to buy six high-rise stands and six lift systems for county use. The motion to approve that purchase was made by Ridgely and seconded by Jacobs and carried unanimously.
Curtis Vanderheiden, the county's conservation director, presented the department's annual report. The supervisors appointed Vanderheiden as the county Weed Commissioner and approved the 2026 Weed Commissioner's Report; the appointment and report approval passed on motions by Scott Jacobs and Cory Ridgely, respectively.
Theresa Hildreth, Calhoun County economic development director, provided department updates and the board voted to allow the Calhoun County Auditor's Office to act as fiscal agent for Calhoun County Economic Development if the organization receives a Community Foundation grant. That motion was made by Ridgely and seconded by Jacobs and carried unanimously.
The board reviewed and allowed claims checks numbered 80806–80899 and bank drafts DFT0005503–0005517. The meeting minutes list a detailed claims register with vendor names and amounts in the official record; the board approved the claims on a motion by Ridgely, seconded by Jacobs.
On personnel matters, the board approved a probationary pay increase for Jordan Feldhans in the sheriff's department, effective Dec. 2, 2025. The chair was also authorized to sign the county's Annual Urban Renewal Report.
The meeting adjourned with the board scheduling a special session to canvass results of the Special Election for House District 7 on Dec. 11, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., and the next regular meeting was set for Dec. 16, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
