Calhoun County supervisors accept auditor resignation, approve transfers and farm applications; budget requests heard

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 2 accepted the resignation of County Auditor Robin D. Batz, effective Jan. 2, 2026, and voted unanimously to fill the elected auditor vacancy by appointment on that date under Iowa Code 69.14A. The board thanked Batz for 31 years of service.
The board approved two budget transfer resolutions: Transfer Resolution 2025-31 moving funds from the General Basic Fund to the Secondary Road Fund, and Transfer Resolution 2025-33 moving General Basic funds to the Capital Project Building Maintenance Fund. Both transfer motions passed unanimously.
Family Farm program applications were approved as presented. The board separately approved Family Farm applications for parcel numbers 873310300006 and 873310300009 for Cory Ridgely; Ridgely abstained from that specific vote due to a conflict of interest, and Supervisors Dave George and Scott Jacobs voted yes.
County staff heard budget presentations: Jodi Presswood, Director of Finance for Elderbridge Agency on Aging, presented the agency’s annual report and a FY 2026/27 funding request, and Jessica Coon, grant writer/administrator for the Heart of Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund, requested FY 2026/27 budget funds with Paige Wheeler and Amanda Duran attending.
In election business, the board conducted a statutory drawing for a write-in candidate slot for the 2025 city/school election after a declined nomination; Steve Smothers’ name was drawn following Dennis Fitzgerald’s declination. The meeting adjourned with the next regular meeting set for Dec. 9, 2025 at 9:00 AM in the courthouse Wellness Room due to a special election.
