Dubois County commissioners unanimously approve H.E.L.P. rehabilitation bids

The Dubois County Commissioners on Oct. 14 unanimously approved a slate of contractor awards for the H.E.L.P. (Homeowner Emergency Loan/Program) Owner Occupied Rehabilitation program after a recommendation from Jenny Matheis of the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission. The special meeting began at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners/Council Room at the Courthouse Annex in Jasper and adjourned at 9:29 a.m.
Matheis presented bids for individual homeowner projects and recommended awards for HVAC, ADA accessibility work, radon mitigation, electrical repairs and roofing. Commissioners Chad A. Blessinger, president of the Dubois County Commissioners, and Commissioner Nick Hostetter approved the recommendations; Commissioner Serice Stenftenagel was absent. County Auditor Sandra L. Morton was present.
The commissioners approved the following awards as recommended by Matheis: Baker — Jay’s Specialty Services, HVAC, $12,000; Cooms — Custom Creations Construction, ADA, $2,000; Craven — Innovative Radon Solutions, radon mitigation, $1,600; Drew — Jay’s Specialty Services, electrical, $2,500; Lueken — Huntingburg Machine Works, HVAC, $6,190; Lukemeyer — Gogel Roofing, roof, $10,390 (Innovative Radon Solutions also recommended for radon mitigation, $1,600); Moore — Jay’s Specialty Services, electrical, $10,000; Nash — John Collins General Contractors, ADA, $7,250; Oeding — Custom Creations Construction, ADA, $15,000 (with Jay’s Specialty Services electrical at $1,375 and Innovative Radon Solutions radon mitigation at $1,600); Petry — John Collins General Contractors, roof, $17,000; Seidl — Jay’s Specialty Services, electrical, $1,600; Steckler — John Collins General Contractors, roof, $15,000; and Wuchner — Jay’s Specialty Services, electrical, $1,600.
The commission additionally approved a John Collins General Contractors roof bid for homeowner Wagner at $19,000 on the condition that the work has not already been completed by the homeowner; the agenda notes the work “may have already been completed” and the approval was explicitly made contingent on that point.
A motion to approve the recommended awards was made, seconded and carried unanimously. The meeting record states the motions carried unanimously; with two commissioners present the recorded outcome corresponds to both present members voting to approve and one member absent. No individual mover or seconder was named in the meeting record.
