Dubois County Council adopts $37,988,357 2026 budget and approves multiple agency budgets and ordinances

The Dubois County Council on Oct. 27 adopted the county’s 2026 budget of $37,988,357 and approved an accompanying ordinance establishing salaries, appropriations and tax rates for 2026.
President Michael W. Kluesner asked for a motion to adopt the budget; Meredith I. Voegerl moved to adopt and Doug Uebelhor seconded. The council carried the motion unanimously. Auditor Sandra L. Morton then presented Ordinance 2026; Ryan Craig moved to approve the ordinance, Alex P. Hohl seconded, and the council approved it unanimously.
The meeting included unanimous approval of several other 2026 agency budgets: the Solid Waste Management District at $429,120, the Dubois County Airport Authority at $2,845,900, the Northeast Dubois Fire Protection District at $135,300, and the Northeast Dubois County School Corporation at $12,237,468. Motions to adopt each budget were moved and seconded as recorded and carried without dissent.
Council members also approved multiple additional appropriations and agreed to advertise several more. Approved items included LIT-ED fund capital outlay of $392,000 for a Community Crossings matching grant and $15,000 for Baker Tilly financial services; General Fund requests of $50,000 for ADA compliance and $1,000 for an Employee Assistance Program; Cum Bridge fund requests totaling $186,000 (materials $150,000, tools $11,000, and $25,000 for highway reimbursement/contract services); Solid Waste (Sticker) Fund $30,000 for refuse disposal; Community Corrections Project Income $30,000 for electronic monitoring; Community Transition Fund $3,500 for a copier; and consensus to advertise an additional $10,000 appropriation for ambulance repairs.
The council also adopted Ordinance 2025-15 to re-establish an Enhanced Access Fund for the Recorder’s Office following the Recorder’s transition to Fidlar recording software; the ordinance cites Indiana Code 5-14-3-8.3 for deposit of enhanced access fees.
What happens next: the council agreed to advertise the identified additional appropriations for public hearing and final action, and it will make 2026 appointments at the December 2025 meeting.
