The board added a discussion on landscape services and considered terminating the contract with Laz’s Lawn Service due to performance concerns. District staff recommended engaging GulfScapes Landscape Maintenance Services as a replacement; GulfScapes’ proposal was $58,500, which is $13,000 over the $45,000 amount budgeted for the service.
Board members discussed options to offset the additional cost, including using payments withheld from Laz’s Lawn Service to cover plant-replacement costs and using unassigned funds. On a motion by Kurt Blumenthal, seconded by Bob Schultz, and with all in favor, the board authorized Management to terminate the Laz’s Lawn Service agreement immediately and engage GulfScapes.
The contract transition is effective immediately; staff will implement the termination and coordinate the start of GulfScapes’ services. The board noted that GreenScapes was not an option because the firm refused to execute the district’s contract.
