Regional waste authority urges Olivia to designate local disposal site in upcoming trash RFP

Council members asked about comparative costs and competitive rates; Mitchell stated there is typically a small per-ton surcharge (described informally in the meeting as about $1 additional per unit compared with alternative options) but that hauling efficiencies and regional cooperation make the authority’s option cost-competitive and preferable for keeping taxpayer funds in the regional system. The council agreed there was consensus to provide direction to staff to include the authority’s facility in the RFP procurement documents.
