Board selects 11800 Crater Road for new Station 6, asks staff to pursue architectural RFP

The recommended site, identified at 11800 Crater Road (the so‑called Nanny site), was preferred by the architectural team and county staff because modeling showed modestly improved coverage: roughly a 7% increase in fire incidents captured and small percentage gains in EMS coverage versus keeping the existing station site.
Staff explained they had reviewed costing and response‑time impacts and that the alternative site around Cortlandt was less favorable for EMS response. One supervisor raised the possibility that some parcels could require right‑of‑way acquisition; staff noted VDOT would handle eminent‑domain/right‑of‑way acquisition if needed for a state‑funded roadway project but that project design remained preliminary.
The board voted to select 11800 Crater Road and then gave consensus for staff to issue a request for proposals for architecture and design services, with the county administrator asked to poll absent supervisors before finalizing next‑step timing.
The county will proceed with design procurement and return to the board with more detailed cost estimates and a timeline for construction procurement.
