Board keeps Reeves precinct at Central Wellness Center after debate on access and costs

Alan Richardson introduced electoral board chair Janice Gano, who explained a recommendation to move Reeves precinct from the Central Wellness Center (CWC) to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, citing better proximity for the district's population, clearer sight lines and a smaller manpower footprint: the county would pay a flat $200 per election to a non‑county facility rather than substantial in‑house labor to prepare the CWC.
Residents offered mixed views. Several speakers, including Avis Bennett and Vicki Mitchell, asked whether traffic or other studies had been done and urged caution because the precinct moved only three years earlier; they cautioned that last‑minute changes near a major election could confuse voters. Others, including Justin Noblin, supported Sacred Heart for operational and cost reasons and emphasized the county's payroll savings.
Scott Ennis of General Services later presented a separate but related report documenting that the CWC entrance does not meet ADA standards: the ramp and sidewalk show cracking, gaps and trip hazards that staff highlighted with photos and recommended full demolition and replacement to meet current ADA and building codes. Ennis told the board he would solicit firm bids and return with pricing.
After discussion about traffic patterns and the need to fix CWC if the board retained it as a polling place, a supervisor moved to keep Reeves precinct at the Central Wellness Center. The motion was seconded and passed by roll call. The board also directed staff to pursue immediate repairs and price proposals to bring CWC into compliance and minimize future disruption.
The electoral board will continue coordination on precinct logistics; any move of a precinct requires an advertised public hearing and formal action by the board if it is to be changed in the future.
