Orono votes not to join Lake Minnetonka legislative coalition this year, citing budget and coordination concerns

One councilmember proposed a motion "not to join the Lake Minnetonka coalition proposal" and another seconded it; staff said the city could identify $10,000 if directed but that doing so would reduce flexibility for other priorities. After further discussion, the council approved the motion not to participate under the proposal as presented, by voice vote of 4 to 1.
Council members suggested monitoring how the coalition develops and possibly revisiting participation next year if goals or staffing arrangements change. Staff recommended that, if council wishes to engage in a regional lobbying effort, the city should set maximum contributions and clarify firm selection and specific objectives before committing funds.
