Beacon Falls readies 250th anniversary events; summer reading kickoff drew 135 children

The board reviewed multiple events planned as part of Beacon Falls' 250th anniversary. Trustees recorded plans for a patriotic float in the Fireman's Parade on June 27 featuring two children dressed as Betsy Ross and George Washington; a Declaration of Independence reading on July 8 at the Parks and Recreation Summer Concert; Family Day on July 11 with a wreath-laying at Pinesbridge Cemetery, shuttle service to Pent Road Recreation Complex and fireworks at dark; an outdoor movie night on Aug. 8 showing Hamilton at Pent Road; and a block party on Aug. 29 on Wolfe Avenue.
Library staff also reported on the Summer Reading kickoff held June 17 at the St. Michael Church Green. Attendance at the kickoff was recorded at 135 children and 108 adults. The first 100 children to register for the summer reading program received vouchers for free ice cream from Big Dipper. The library will use Beanstack to track reading minutes and logbooks throughout the summer.
Trustees noted the strong turnout at the kickoff and confirmed volunteer and logistics plans tied to the 250th events.
