Friends of the Beacon Falls Library plan Pocketbook Bingo fundraiser, buy museum passes and support summer reading
Summary
The Friends of the Library reported plans for an Oct. 3 Pocketbook Bingo fundraiser, approved purchase of Governor’s Reading Challenge books and allocated Give Local funds to summer reading incentives; they also approved museum and attraction passes for patrons.
At the June 23 meeting the board received an update from the Friends of the Library. The Friends reported they met June 9 and are planning an annual Pocketbook Bingo fundraiser on Oct. 3, 2026; they are distributing donation-request letters to local businesses and organizations to solicit prizes.
The Friends approved purchasing books for the Governor’s Reading Challenge to support elementary students through grade 8, and they allocated funds raised during Give Local to summer reading incentives, programs and supplies. The group also approved purchasing museum and attraction passes for patrons, including passes to the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Mattatuck Museum and Action Wildlife.
The board recorded the Friends’ actions as supporting youth literacy, summer programming and enhanced patron services.
