Beacon Falls trustees approve $522.40 for replacement library cards; review May budget

The Beacon Falls Library Board of Trustees voted June 23 to pay $522.40 to purchase 785 physical library cards after staff reported the supply was running low ahead of the busy summer reading season. Trustee Lauren Fennell moved the payment be made from Library Board funds to cover the cost because the Materials line lacked sufficient funds; Matt Yanarella seconded and the motion passed with all ayes.
Library Director Elizabeth Setaro-Posick presented the board with May financial figures: expenditures for the month totaled $19,801.31, bringing year-to-date spending to $227,433.46, about 90% of the annual budget. The library checking account balance was reported at $4,498.08 and the STIF investment account at $12,224.27.
Board discussion recorded that the card order was necessary to maintain patron registration capacity during summer programming. The minutes show the payment was authorized from board funds rather than the depleted Materials line; no other reallocation or additional contingency was approved at this meeting.
The board also reviewed standard fiscal reports and authorized the single payment. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15, 2026.
