Council seeks updates on local development projects and asks county to involve city on road plans

The Grand Marais City Council discussed several local development projects and expressed a need for clearer timelines and financing updates from outside developers.
Council members said a developer previously proposed schedules for site acquisition and financing that have not been satisfied on the expected timeline. Council asked staff to request written updates from the developers (Duval/Dval and Joel) addressing design changes, progress on a development agreement or acquisition mode, and current status of financing. One councilmember suggested scheduling a December meeting with Joel to talk logistics and neighborhood information-sharing even if financing is expected in January.
The council also raised concern about a county-led road project on Wisconsin and Broadway, noting that city officials learned of progress indirectly and asked that the county engineer and administrator engage the city directly. Council asked staff to draft a written communication to the county board or otherwise request that the county include Grand Marais in the planning process so city interests and local logistics are addressed.
Officials said they will try to have a county representative (Robbie) at a future meeting to provide details; staff were asked to prepare a draft letter from the council and to coordinate next steps.
