Council awards cemetery maintenance contract and approves cemetery mapping invoice

The council un‑tabled Item I1 (lawn maintenance for Mont Blanchet Cemetery) and after discussion approved awarding the maintenance contract to Dick's Landscaping (reported low bidder) for $31,900. Council members noted the cemetery commission had no complaints about the incumbent contractor (Jordan's), that Jordan's had held the contract the prior year, and that the lower bid drove the decision. "We're going to move forward with ... the long manuscript," a council member said while the motion to award carried on a voice vote.
Separately, the council considered WHKS invoice 57069 totaling $8,081.54 for a cemetery‑mapping project. Staff described the deliverable as an updated GIS map that would let staff and members of the public click on plots, see aerial basemaps and locate individual plots without unrolling paper maps. "So the end result here is to have an updated map of who's where," staff said; the council approved the invoice and noted the mapping would be public information and should reduce staff time spent locating plots.
Council discussed that the mapping would incorporate existing book records and that volunteers and staff (including Mary Evans) had contributed historical data. The mapping project was described as a tool to make plot selection and record access easier for the public and staff; the council approved both the maintenance contract award and the WHKS invoice during the meeting.
