Montrose council approves fire personnel moves, authorizes $5,000 DNR grant application

The City of Montrose council on Oct. 13 accepted the resignation of probationary firefighter Christopher Fouch, approved the hiring of firefighter Lindseay Wandersy and authorized the fire department to apply for a 50/50 Volunteer Fire Assistance grant through the state Department of Natural Resources (grant up to $5,000; city match approximately $2,500).
Kevin, speaking for the Montrose Fire Department, told the council the department had a busy month of training and acknowledged neighboring departments for joint training efforts. He announced that Kelly Stole has been appointed as assistant fire chief for 2026–2027 and asked permission to submit the DNR grant application, which he said the department applies for annually and sometimes receives.
Councilmember Miss Otto moved to authorize the department to apply for the 50/50 DNR grant up to $5,000; a second was offered and the motion carried unanimously, 5–0. The council separately moved to accept the resignation of Christopher Fouch effective Sept. 30, 2025, and to hire Lindseay Wandersy effective Sept. 22, 2025; both motions passed 5–0.
The council did not discuss additional conditions tied to the grant application during the meeting. Next procedural steps for the grant include submitting the application as authorized by council and awaiting award notification from the state.
