The Cornwall Central School District will appoint Kate Palumbo as assistant superintendent for instruction, the board discussed during its June celebration meeting.
In a superintendent update, Mrs. Arjenio thanked Kathy Aign for her work as interim assistant superintendent for instruction and for leading the district through a state targeted monitoring review. "Kathy came into work every day and played an integral role in getting us moving with MTSS," the superintendent said, acknowledging the workload for that review.
The superintendent announced that Kate Palumbo, who has served as principal at Cornwall Central Middle School for 14 years, will be appointed assistant superintendent for instruction at a coming agenda item. "Although Kate will be missed at CCMS, we are very much looking forward to the work she will do as our new ASI," the superintendent said.
Board President Christine Diaz and other board members framed the meeting as a celebration of the school year, noting voter support for this year’s budget and capital projects and the district’s launch of a three‑to‑five‑year strategic plan. Board members also thanked staff for strong academic, artistic and athletic performances and encouraged the community to enjoy the remainder of the school year and summer.
The board’s comments also recognized candidates and recent hires who will join the district's administrative ranks next month; the board did not take additional formal action on the appointment during the portion of the transcript provided, but indicated the appointment will be processed in the upcoming meeting cycle.
