City staff said the contract amount in the packet is $48,000 and that funding will come from the city’s capital account. Staff told council they would send the contract to BNSF and that the railroad indicated roughly a six-week lead time to begin work. Council and staff discussed coordinating the city’s paving work to extend to the edge of BNSF’s right-of-way so the city would not need to re-enter BNSF property later, a move staff said could save substantial future costs.
Council approved resolution 2026-09 by voice vote. Staff advised that the actual shutdown for crossing work was estimated by the railroad at about three days but cautioned the timeline could vary with weather and scheduling.
