The council moved through routine business items, approving the consent agenda (including Resolution 257, which approves a zoning ordinance variance for 203 and 215 North Second Street Apartments) and minutes from prior meetings. During consent discussion a timing dispute over a February 26 variance was raised by a citizen; the city attorney said the council would memorialize the Feb. 26 action in a written resolution and the consent items were approved.
Council approved a one-year pay increase for the administrative assistant/city clerk following review, and approved paying $1,200 for Goodhue County Sheriff's POSI coverage during the Wolves Fest weekend to provide additional crowd-control presence. The council also discussed that the sheriff has used a city office and heated equipment storage for more than a year without charge; members directed staff to reach out to county leadership to negotiate whether a modest fee (one council member suggested $500/month as an example) or additional hours of sheriff presence would be an appropriate exchange for continued use.
No major contentious votes occurred on these items; the motions carried by voice vote. Staff were directed to proceed with routine post-vote steps such as posting hearing notices and depositing checks already provided to the city.
