Representatives of the Three Rivers Park District presented the first phase of the Weaver Lake Regional Trail long‑range plan to the Maple Grove City Council on April 20.
Maggie Heurung, representing Three Rivers Park District, described the Weaver Lake Regional Trail as a linking corridor that ultimately will connect Lake Rebecca Park Reserve in Rockford to the West Mississippi River Trail in Brooklyn Park. The initial planning phase will focus on connecting Brooklyn Boulevard and West Broadway (near the Blue Line LRT station) to the Lake Independence Regional Trail through Corcoran, Maple Grove and Brooklyn Park.
Ms. Heurung said the corridor will frequently use existing city trails and noted that in Maple Grove some trail segments would be reconstructed to meet Three Rivers Park District standards. She also said community engagement activities are planned for summer and fall 2026. Councilmembers asked about the intended users of the trail (transportation and recreation), when the project would go to the Metropolitan Council (anticipated summer or fall 2026), and whether reconstruction would be needed to meet district standards.
The presentation was informational; council did not take a vote on the plan at this meeting.
