Manager reports audit variance traced to bank posting error; deputy-clerk interviews set

Auditors identified a reconciliation variance dating to March caused by a real-estate tax payment that went to Anderson Bank but was not posted in the town’s TRIO accounting system. The manager said auditors found the item; correcting that posting should clear the fiscal-year 2025 books and allow the audit to proceed.
On staffing, the manager said the deputy-clerk posting drew 14 applicants; the clerk and deputy treasurer will interview three candidates this week. He noted many applicants lack specific motor-vehicle registration experience and that notary status varies among the candidate pool, so training will be required if one is hired.
What happens next: managers will schedule the audit work once the variance is corrected; interviews for the deputy-clerk role proceed and a hire is anticipated after vetting and training as needed.
