The Green County Employee Salary and Benefits Advisory Subcommittee voted Feb. 3 to present pricing from McGrath Consulting for a market evaluation of 10 requested positions to the county’s Personnel and Labor Relations Committee.
Committee members said many of the positions — drawn from Pleasant View, Human Services and Public Health — remain open because the county’s pay rates are no longer competitive. The committee recorded a vendor quote of $4,895 to evaluate the 10 positions; the cost would be covered by the departments requesting the evaluation. The committee also requested that Chair Delores Merrick obtain a separate quote for a full refresh of the county wage scale to assess whether broader adjustments are needed.
Arianna Voegeli moved to present the information and pricing for both the ten-position evaluations and a total wage-scale refresh to the Personnel and Labor Relations Committee; Dan Williams seconded the motion, which carried on a voice vote. The motion does not authorize contracting with McGrath; it directs staff to compile and forward the consultant pricing and proposal to the P&LR committee for its consideration.
The issue grew out of discussion that small cost-of-living increases since the wage scale’s implementation have left some roles “out of market,” making recruitment difficult, the committee noted. The committee recorded that most of the 10 positions are currently vacant and that departments requested the review to guide recruitment and pay-band decisions.
Next steps: Chair Merrick will obtain a quote for a full wage-scale refresh and staff will present the detailed pricing and scope from McGrath Consulting to the Personnel and Labor Relations Committee for its review; no formal hiring or budget appropriation was approved at the advisory committee meeting.
