The Pelican Rapids City Council agreed on Jan. 27 to pursue a tabletop emergency-management exercise to build familiarity with roles during a major incident and to improve local readiness.
Chief Quite told the council county emergency managers are available to lead a facilitated exercise that would walk through a scenario and give council members, city administration, fire, public works and other partners a clearer sense of responsibilities. He said the session could run “two and a half to four hours,” likely during the day, and staff suggested targeting late February or March depending on availability.
Council members asked whether private-sector and large-employer representatives could participate; staff said the exercise could be scaled to include outside partners if the council wants broader participation. Chief Quite and staff emphasized the goal is not to rehearse a specific hazard in detail for public show, but to ensure participants understand roles and next steps in a realistic local scenario.
Council provided general consensus to proceed and asked staff to continue scheduling and coordination with county emergency managers; no formal motion or date was set at the Jan. 27 meeting.
