Pelican Rapids sets Feb. 24 hearing on housing tax abatement for twin home

The Pelican Rapids City Council on Jan. 27 approved Resolution 2026-01 to call a public hearing on a property tax abatement tied to the housing incentive program. Council member Danielle told the council the item concerns the second half of a twin home built by Mike Carlson; county parceling has been completed and the hearing is set for Feb. 24, 2026, the council’s final meeting that month.
Danielle explained the abatement process is the next step now that the parcel has been split and a parcel number assigned by the county. A motion to pass Resolution 2026-01 was moved, seconded and carried without recorded opposition.
The resolution merely schedules the public hearing; the council did not adopt the abatement itself during the Jan. 27 meeting. The hearing on Feb. 24 will allow the council to receive public comment and decide whether to grant a tax abatement under the housing incentive program.
