Board opens bids for 2025-1 Washington CCMG paving project; takes proposals under advisement

The Board of Public Works and Safety opened bids for the 2025-1 Washington CCMG paving project on April 28 and took the proposals under advisement for further review by the street commissioner.
City staff read the bids: E & B Paving submitted a grand total of $498,223 and listed alternates that included $26,849 for 14th Street work and $59,157 for Woodlawn Court. Milestone Contractors of Bloomington submitted a lower grand total bid of $468,475. Staff confirmed both bidders supplied required documents such as bid bonds and properly executed noncollusion affidavits.
The board voted to have the street commissioner review the bids and report back at the next meeting rather than award the contract immediately; Councilman Dahl moved to take the bids under advisement and Councilwoman Nash seconded the motion. A board member said, "I'm going to take them under advisement. And look at them and pull back. I said come back." The board took the bids under advisement by voice vote.
In brief votes earlier in the meeting the board approved the April 14 minutes and approved the submitted claims. Those procedural items were moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Next steps: the street commissioner will evaluate the bids, check references and compliance with bid documents, and return with a recommendation at the next board meeting. The board did not award the paving contract during the April 28 meeting.
