Council approves routine hires, rental-inspection timing and grant sponsorship request

At its March 10 meeting the Pelican Rapids City Council adopted standard consent items and several routine approvals.
Katie, representing the Economic Development Authority, asked the council to approve a resolution to apply for Otter Tail County Community Growth Partnership funding to administer a second round of the business façade program and requested the city act as fiscal sponsor for a Chamber of Commerce West Central Initiative spring grant application. The council handled both items in a single motion and approved them by voice vote.
Superintendent Olsen presented the street and parks report and requested two hires: Ian Fay as a seasonal parks worker and Allison Jessen to return as pool manager at the rates discussed in the packet. After motion and second the council approved both hires and accepted the report.
Administrator Ryum summarized changes to the rental inspection service agreement with contractor Sid Faw: the inspection window will move from September–December to April–June consistent with a recent ordinance change; rates remain unchanged and the council approved the updated agreement.
Councilman Don Parin briefed the council on Masonic Lodge fundraising for AED cabinets (heated, bilingual English/Spanish units) and Narcan; the Masons asked the city’s help identifying suitable cabinet locations and coordinating maintenance; council asked police, fire and public works staff to meet with donors to identify placement and maintenance plans.
All motions noted above were approved by voice vote.
