Pelican Rapids council adopts Chapter 7 parking changes, adds overnight no-parking downtown

The Pelican Rapids City Council voted Feb. 10 to adopt revisions to Chapter 7 of the city code that expand no-parking zones and add a new overnight restriction downtown.
Council members reviewed a map prepared by staff showing additions to existing no-parking areas including Broadway from Fifth South to Eighth North, where a 2 a.m.–6 a.m. no-parking rule will apply to improve snow-removal and street-sweeping operations. Additional always-no-parking segments were described on River Road, East Mill and First Street and other targeted blocks shown on the map.
Supporters said the changes will aid snow removal and summer sweeping. "On the last snow removal, they had to go around three or four different vehicles," a councilor observed; staff noted that if adopted the ordinance would become effective when new signage is posted.
The motion to approve the Chapter 7 parking revisions passed by voice vote with no recorded dissents.
Next steps: City staff will install signage indicating the new restrictions; the ordinance takes effect when signage is in place.
