At the Nov. 25 meeting a local landlord, identified in the meeting as Greg, described his experience with the city's rental‑inspection process and urged the council to consider a more graduated (tiered) approach to violations and repair timelines.
Greg said he received a notice that his rental failed with 16 violations and described costs and logistical problems getting repairs done while a tenant occupied the unit, citing an example of an expensive window replacement. He said the process made it hard to clean up and evict a problematic tenant and asked the council to have the ordinance committee meet with the inspector and police chief to align expectations and provide reasonable timeframes for repairs that are not immediate hazards.
Council members responded that they could not change the ordinance on the spot and that any modification would require referral to the ordinance committee for review. No formal motion or change to the ordinance was recorded at the meeting.
