Prairie City Council approves routine motions, sets budget hearing for April 22

The council approved the consent agenda, which included March financials, April claims, and invoices including a $23,255.50 bill from Dorsey Whitney LLP and a $305.15 MSA invoice. The council also approved payment to Westview Cemetery of $550 for 2025 and $550 for 2026.
The council hired Becky Firkins and Jennifer Kline as Summer Recreation Directors at a pay rate of $1,500 each, pending successful background checks. It approved removal of the chains between pillars at Waveland Cemetery and authorized the purchase of three handheld radios for the Fire Department from Racom for $12,915.75.
Council approved the KC Tree Service bid of $1,000 to remove a right-of-way tree at 304 S Monroe St., and voted to repost the City Administrator position and notify previous applicants of the reposting. The council set a public hearing for adoption of the FY 2026-27 budget for 6:00 p.m. April 22, 2026.
All recorded votes on these items were unanimous. The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
