Johnstown Planning Board approves Cayadutta Street party venue and Rust & Dust change of use

The Johnstown Planning Board approved two site-plan items on June 2: a proposed party venue on Cayadutta Street and a change-of-use application for Rust & Dust at 28 E. Main Street.

The public hearing for the Cayadutta Street party venue opened and closed at 4:18 p.m.; the minutes state no members of the public appeared and no written comments were received. Code Enforcement confirmed outstanding code-related issues had been addressed, and board members found that required documentation had been submitted and that the proposed use was appropriate for the property. Board Member Betsy Camarra moved to approve the site plan and Board Member Roberta Thomas seconded; the motion passed with a recorded tally of 3 ayes and 2 members absent. The applicant was advised to complete the operating-permit process with the Code Enforcement Office.

The board also reviewed an application from Rust & Dust to convert a former restaurant at 28 E. Main Street into an antique store with minor façade and signage changes and potential small vendor spaces inside. The board determined the change of use was a simple conversion with no significant construction or expansion; members noted it would likely generate less traffic than the prior restaurant use and that existing parking was adequate. The board approved the change of use and site plan with the same recorded vote (3 ayes, 2 absent). The minutes show the board determined a Fulton County Planning Board referral was not required due to the nature of the application.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved the May 5 minutes and, at 4:42 p.m., adjourned. City Clerk Carrie M. Allen signed the minutes.
