A public hearing and subsequent vote at the April 5 Melbourne City Council meeting approved a variance for 402 2nd Avenue and several building permits while a carport application at 410 2nd Avenue was pulled for further review.
Clerk Mary Pothast said she had received no written or verbal comments on the variance application. Councilmember Carrie White asked Justin Young to clarify the proposed addition, which Young described as an extension in line with the existing garage and set 4 feet from the property line. After brief council discussion the public hearing closed and Councilmember David Gibbs moved to approve the permit and variance; Councilmember Lucas Hauser seconded and the motion passed by roll call (all ayes).
Separately, the council approved a shed permit for property owners McGee and Branson at 705 Butler and approved a 16-by-28 addition on the north side of the house at 212 1st Avenue for Reitano. A carport permit for Troy and Cindy Schelling at 410 2nd Avenue was pulled because of concerns about its proximity to a sewer line and will require further review before the council acts.
The actions reflect routine building-permit oversight and an administrative variance process following a public hearing. No public commenters spoke on the applications during the meeting.
