Red Lodge mayor asks to use county airport for West Bench water-main work; demolition funding noted

Westwood said the city is seeking temporary use of the south end of the Carbon County airport to stage equipment and to create a new truck approach that would provide a more efficient route during construction. "construction of the 6-inch bypass water main is set to begin August 11, located on the West Bench of Red Lodgeand impacting White Avenue," Westwood said during his appearance before the commissioners.
A meeting with the Airport Board is scheduled for Aug. 5 to consider authorizing the use of airport property and to review the proposed new approach for trucks. The request would give the city a county‑owned staging area for heavy equipment and reduce truck traffic through residential streets, according to Westwood's account to the commissioners.
Westwood also reported that funding has been secured to demolish the Rocky Fork Inn, a flood‑damaged property formerly occupied by Bastian. He said the city is awaiting the necessary permits to begin demolition work.
