Floodplain manager says revised maps may take years; DEQ applications filed for Castaway Cabins

Floodplain Manager Amiee Bailey updated the Carbon County Commissioners on July 17 that the county's new floodplain mapping is still in draft and may take a couple of years to complete because of funding limitations.
Bailey said applications have been submitted to the Department of Environmental Quality for both existing and proposed Castaway Cabins buildings and reiterated that permits will be required before any construction can proceed. Administrative Officer Angela Newell told the board the county still holds FEMA funds from the 2022 flood and those funds could be used if floodplain-related issues arise during implementation.
No formal action or vote on the mapping timeline was recorded; Bailey left the meeting after the update. The commissioners recessed to the next agenda item.
