Local indicators—self-reported measures such as basic services, implementation of standards, family engagement and school climate—highlighted both strengths (92.6% clear-certified teachers; facility inspection compliance) and areas needing development (materials alignment and systematic professional learning at full implementation levels).
In follow-up questioning, trustees asked what district interventions are in place to prevent students from reaching chronic-absence thresholds. Dr. Lynn and Superintendent Roach said the district has shifted from punitive approaches to supportive interventions: student-family services proactively identify students approaching chronic-absence levels (around 10% missed days), schools collaborate with families to identify root causes (transportation, connection to school, safety concerns), and the district will continue MTSS implementation and expand secondary literacy and family engagement strategies. Trustees requested qualitative analysis—surveys or interviews—to explain the 'why' behind the data so targeted strategies can be built during the summer planning period.
Why it matters Chronic absenteeism affects funding (ADA) and student outcomes; trustees linked every 1% of ADA to roughly $1 million in district revenue. The district’s emphasis on supportive, tailored interventions aims to keep students connected and restore instructional progress.
