Carroll board approves virtual 'Cougar Academy' option for 2026–27

Administration said the program will allow students to enroll in virtual coursework using Edunum and Indiana Online depending on the classes selected; enrolled students will continue to be considered district students and are required to take all state assessments. The virtual handbook presented in the board packet includes mandatory orientation and annual meetings for virtual students.
Administrators explained students enrolled in the Cougar Academy may participate in extracurricular activities if they take at least five virtual classes through the district, and athletic eligibility will follow ISSHA rules. Counselors and administrators will meet with families to scope schedules and enrollment, and staff said the presented handbook is likely to be posted on the district website for families to review.
Board members thanked staff for the work to prepare the program and approved the recommendation to offer the virtual school as presented. Administration emphasized the program is an option; students may choose a mix of virtual and in-person classes depending on scheduling and course availability.
